Families and elementary students at Shelby-Rising City School enjoyed lots of reading and rhyming at the Poetry Slam on Thursday, April 18th. The event was held from 12:30-1:15 p.m. in the South Gym. Families of students in Kindergarten through Fifth grades were in attendance. Staff members as well as Middle School and High School students also partnered up with groups of elementary students to enjoy reading poetry. Teachers discussed and wrote poetry with students in their classrooms prior to this event. Students and adults had the option to enter their names in drawings to win a turn at the microphone to read or recite a poem during the Poetry Slam. Lots of students had fun taking a turn at the microphone. This event was a wonderful way to celebrate National Poetry Month while providing students with writing skills practice and oral presentation practice.
