Nebraska State Fair 2019
Each year the Nebraska State Fair has an Education Department where students can compete in contests to earn scholarship money. Again this year, several Shelby-Rising City students prepared static entries ahead of time, such as essays, penmanship, Quilts of Valor and artwork. Four middle school students, Alex Larmon, Ava Larmon, Kaylei Perry, and Lillian Wetjen, and one high school student, Haley Hanak, spent the first weekend of the state fair taking tests and competing in performance competitions, hoping to bring home some awards. Not only did all of these girls earn scholarship money, but Haley Hanak was also presented with the Brad Fossberg Outstanding Performer Award, which is presented to one middle school student and one high school student each year. The Shelby-Rising City Middle School also placed 3rd in team sweepstakes awards, competing against schools from all over the state! Combined, students from S-RC earned over $950 in scholarship money to be used at the college of their choice. Congratulations to all of the students who had entries in the academic contests, and especially to the students who placed in the different contests!
