S-RC High School Music Students Participate in 2019 District Music Contest

Shelby-Rising City High School music students participated in the 2019 District II Music Contest hosted by Central Community College in Columbus Nebraska on April 12th and 13th. Large ensembles, chamber groups, and solos performed by vocal and instrumental students from area schools were rated and given feedback by judges.

Our students all performed admirably and were great representatives of our district. We received many compliments on how professional they were in their performances, as audience members, and as visitors to the CCC campus.

Here are our ratings:

Flute Ensemble – II (Excellent)

Vocal Quartet – II (Excellent)

Mixed Chorus – II (Excellent)

Band – I (Superior)

Flute Duet – II (Excellent)

Alyssa Blohm Vocal Solo – I (Superior)

Julia Augustin Vocal Solo – II (Excellent)

As their director, I want to mention how incredibly proud I am of each student. Putting yourself out to be judged in front of an audience of people you do not know is incredibly nerve wracking, but all of the students have worked extremely hard and performed with a lot of confidence and poise. Seeing the growth in our scores and the evolving feedback from the judges is very encouraging and makes me proud of them and their hard work. Their willingness to step out of their comfort zone and grow in their own musicianship has been a joy to watch.

Congratulations to all S-RC High School musicians on successful performances!
