Our Health Science students hit the road early this morning for a 2-hour trip to Kearney to attend the UNMC Backstage Pass event at UNK! The travel time was well worth it as our students spent the day diving into high-tech, hands-on medical simulations.

🩺 What Our Students Experienced:

From the "Rad to the Bone" X-ray booth to learning it’s "Great Tibia PT," our students rotated through specialized sessions including:

  • Nursing: Testing their strength against the LUCAS Chest Compression System.

  • Sonography: Using real ultrasound machines to scan training phantoms.

  • Pharmacy: Diagnosing "patients" to determine the best over-the-counter treatments.

  • Physician Assistant: Mastering heart rhythms using the SIM Man technology.

  • Medical Lab Science: Getting up close with blood cells to see how lab tests guide life-saving decisions.

  • OT, PT, and Radiography: Exploring balance exercises, virtual simulations, and the value of the interprofessional medical team.

It was an incredible day of seeing "state-of-the-art" in action. A huge thank you to UNMC and UNK for hosting our students and showing them exactly what it takes to succeed in these vital career pathways!

A huge thank you to Investigator McCracken from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for spending time with our High School Forensic Science students!

It’s one thing to read about crime scene processing in a textbook, but hearing Investigator McCracken share her firsthand experiences brings the curriculum to life in a way only a professional can. Our students were captivated by her insights into the dedication and detail required in the field.

Beyond the Classroom
The partnership doesn't stop at the classroom door! Through our incredible collaboration with CCC, students enrolled in our Criminal Justice courses are also being offered ride-along opportunities with the Sheriff's Office.

This hands-on exposure is invaluable for those looking to pursue careers in public safety and law enforcement. We are so grateful to Investigator McCracken and the entire Polk County Sheriff’s Office for investing in the next generation of professionals!

Damon West’s "Coffee Bean" rule for a better life:

🥕 The Carrot: Softened by the heat.
🥚 The Egg: Hardened by the heat.
☕️ The Coffee Bean: TRANSFORMS the heat.

Don't be a reflection of your environment. Be the one who changes the flavor of the room.
